HEADLINE: LEARN MORE: Transverse or metatarsal arch

Did you know that there is more than one arch in the skeletal construction of the foot? The longitudinal medial arch, the one we all think of as the arch, aids in weight bearing. On the opposite side of the foot is another small arch. The transverse arch is in the forefoot where the metatarsal bones meet the upper part of the foot. The transverse arch flexes when the foot is moving through natural phases of pronation and supination in the gait cycle.
